The Ghana Football Association (GFA) must stump up a whopping US$ 876,000 to dismissed coach Kwesi Appiah as severance package.

According to FIFA regulations, an FA must pay two years salary of a coach dismissed after renewing his contract.

Appiah was given a contract extension in May 2014 prior to the World Cup in Brazil.  The ex-Ghana captain signed a new two-year deal worth US$ 36, 500 after masterminding the country’s qualification to the 2014 World Cup.

However, barely four months after sealing the deal with the GFA, Coach Appiah was relieved of his post on Thursday, September 11, 2014. This comes 24 hours after leading the Black Stars to beat Togo 1-2 in a 2015 Nations Cup qualifier in Lome.

Together with Uganda, Ghana are joint leaders of Group E in the CAN 2015 Nations Cup qualifier in Morocco

Appiah previously served as an assistant coach from 2008 to 2012 and lead the Black Stars to the semi-finals of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations finals in South Africa and a woeful World Cup performance in Brazil.
