Highlife Legend Gyedu Blay Ambolley on Friday led about 20 musicians to lock up the head office of the Ghana Music Right Organisation (GHAMRO) in Accra.

It took the intervention of the police to prevent a fist cuff between the administrators of the office and the aggrieved musicians.

There have been divisions among music right owners for some years now over the collection of royalties for GHAMRO members.

Speaking to Citi News, Gyedu Blay Ambulley explained that their action was triggered by what he described as some “malpractices committed by the caretakers” of the organization.

“We have so many reports and evidences of so many malpractices that are going on in there and we want to stop it,” He said.

He was quick to add that current officers at GHAMRO’s head office were given a mandate of six months which he said  ”expired on January 11, 2015,” adding that “if there is any changes or any election on anything that has to take place, it means that their members need to be called so that we all sit down and agree. Even the constitution that is over there is not adopted, it is now that we are all going to sit down to adopt that kind of constitution.
“When we wanted to lock the office down they called the police to come, when the police came we told them why we are here because it concerns stakeholders. We all went there and we locked it up,” he added.
