Dancehall music is one of the biggest genres making it in the Ghanaian music industry and has seen the likes of Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Samini, Jupitar, Kaakie, Mzvee and more do well in that sector.
Well based upon feed back from die hard fans of dancehall music, the categorization board of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards have decided to add "Reggae / Dancehall Artiste of the Year ".
In the previous years, the dancehall artistes only had one category which was Reggae / Dancehall Song of the Year.
The board has revealed that the definition reads that “The Reggae / Dancehall Artiste of the Year is the Artiste (s) adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as the Artiste (s) with the highest audience appeal and popularity in the Reggae / Dancehall genre. The Artiste (s) must have released a hit single / album in the year under review.
This change in the category is expected to see Samini, Stonebwoy, Jupitar, Ras Kuuku, IWAN and more battle it out as the ‘Dancehall Artiste of the Year’.
Now we will really see who is the Dancehall King of Ghana.
