According to Wikipedia.org, homosexuality is the romantic attraction, sexual attraction or sexual behavior between members of the same sex or gender. The most common terms for homosexuals are lesbians for females and gays for males.
The issue of homosexuality is a dicey one as people who are against it are able to give good reasons for their stance and those in favour of it also believe they have the right to practice homosexuality. It then becomes very difficult to draw a conclusion on the issue of homosexuality as to whether it’s the right thing to do or not.
Interestingly, it is very difficult and almost impossible within the entertainment industry to have people coming out to state that they are gays or lesbians even though Panji Anoff once wrote on his Facebook wall that he is gay. Some people in the entertainment industry are also rumored to be gays and lesbians even though there isn’t any evidence to substantiate the rumours.
Ghana’s Reggae and Dancehall artiste, Iwan has added his voice to the discussion about homosexuality. According to Iwan, the practice of homosexuality is not part of our traditions as Ghanaians and Africans as a whole adding that homosexuality is one of the tools being used by the Western World against African culture. He also noted that homosexuality is against the Laws of God as it is shunned upon by Christian and Islamic teachings. Iwan also revealed that the practice of homosexuality is present in Ghana’s entertainment industry but declined to mention names of people in the entertainment industry who are deeply-rooted in the practice.
When asked how best homosexuality could be stopped, Iwan stated Ghanaians and Africans as a whole should stick to their traditions and norms and ensure that they do not succumb to the pressure mounted by the Western World to legalize homosexuality. He also noted that the Bible and Quran should serve as a guide to Christians and Moslems in the fight against homosexuality.
As a musician, Iwan believes his contribution in the fight against homosexuality should be through his music. He has disclosed to Flex Newspaper that in two weeks time, he would be releasing a new single ”We been sleeping”, a song that addresses the issue of homosexuality and other pertinent issues in the country. The simple word of advice he gave to people in the entertainment industry is “Homosexuality is an unnatural thing. No youth should venture into it no matter what the obstacles in life are. The Devil is always opposite. Know that homosexuality is the Work of the Devil”.
